System hitches

I have been facing three problems with my system. Please suggest solutions.

The first one is: How do I switch off the "Auto-Complete" Option in Internet Explorer? Whenever I access IE to send mails, whatever address I type in the "To" column gets stored in Internet Explorer. Even when I delete History/Temporary Internet files etc, it doesn't go. This is particularly a problem when I access from a cyber cafe.

My second query is: I have Windows ME installed with 10 GB HDD & P-III 550 Mhz. Nowadays it hangs repeatedly. Whenever I do ALT+CTRL + DEL, it shows the several background programs running with one application "msgsrv32 {lcub}not responding{rcub}." What do I do about it?

As for my third query, this problem has surfaced pretty recently. At the time of boot-up, my system displays the following message: "Re-Select CPU Speed. Press any key to continue." When I press any key, it goes to set up (settings), then I press Esc key. It displays a message: "Exit without saving." Then I press Y and then enter key. It then boots up.

On the first day this problem cropped up, along with these things, a message citing wrong CMOS Settings appeared. It suggested that I press F1 to change the settings and F2 to continue with default values.

At that time I pressed F2. After that, this message hasn't appeared again.

(I remember this kind of problem cropping up about six months ago earlier, when the service engineer replaced a battery/cell inside.) Can this be the same problem of weakened cell/battery? If so, can I replace the cell myself?

You can switch off Auto Complete by clicking on tools on the Internet Explorer menu and then clicking on Internet Options - {gt} select the `content tab' then click on auto complete. In the following dialog box, please uncheck whatever you feel you don't want to store, and to clear the existing entries click the `clear forms' button.

Regarding the msgsrv32 Not Responding problem, it must be caused as power management is switched on in your system and your system does not support it due to incompatible hardware settings in CMOS relating to ACPI or some programs having issues with power management which don't respond to the system, specially when reactivated from idle state.

Here is how you can find out if your problem is directly related to power management or related to any specific program.

When you come across this problem next time, lose the programs running at that time one by one.

If your `note responding' state gets released, then it is a problem with the concerned program. If the problem persists even after closing all the programs, then it is a problem with the power management. You can disable power management in the control panel.

And regarding the CMOS setting, it is clearly a battery problem. First see that the battery is seated correctly on the board, try removing it and replacing it.

If this doesn't work, then you will have to replace it with a new one.
