More funds granted for rail works in Karnataka

MANGALORE, Dec. 24
THE Centre has sanctioned an additional Rs 25 crore for the completion of gauge conversion work on the Mangalore-Bangalore railway line, according to the Union Minister of State for Textiles, Mr V. Dhananjaya Kumar.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Mr Dhananjaya Kumar, who represents the Mangalore-Madikeri constituency in Parliament, said the Rs 25 crore sanctioned recently is in addition to the Rs 16 crore earmarked for the project in the 2001 Railway Budget.
With this, a total of Rs 41 crore has been earmarked for the project during the current year.
A long-standing demand of the region, the Mangalore-Bangalore railway link is expected to boost throughput through the New Mangalore Port.
