Court bars SBI discontinuance

The State Bank of India has been directed not to discontinue the Janata Deposit Scheme, which was to end on July 1.

The SBI has been directed not to discontinue the scheme till July 16, 2001. This is the next date of hearing. The petition had been filed by 70 deposit-seekers who have stated that they would lose their jobs if the scheme is terminated. -- BL Research Bureau
