Inflation up
A new series of Wholesale Price Index (WPI) with 1993-94 as the base year, has been introduced with effect from the week ending April 1.
The inflation rate (as measured by the new Wholesale Price Index) hit a 74-week high of 6.31 per cent for the week ended May 6, from 5.94 per cent recorded in the preceding week. The inflation rate for the corresponding week of last year was at 3.41 per cent.
