Economy
Anti-poverty plan
This refers to `Why there is so much poverty in Asia' (Business Line, September 4). The following observation of the author are significant. What is required is the political will to implement the suggestion, notwithstanding what IMF or World Bank may pr escribe for less-developed countries.

Miscellaneous
Human Rights Commission
A lot of noise is being created by the Human Rights Commission targeting only the security and police forces operating in various parts of the country.

Mutual Funds
The UTI mess
The article ``MIPs: Another UTI bombshell?'' (Business Line, August 19) is revealing and shocking. The former Finance Minister, T. T. Krishnamachari, would have never thought that his novel idea of mobilising public funds for the welfare of the people un der the corporate name Unit Trust of India would come to this tragic pass.
