Kinetic proposes to launch 3 new bikes

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Aug. 16

KINETIC Engineering Ltd (KEL), the Pune-based two-wheeler manufacturer, is planning a slew of new initiatives, including new product launches aimed at increasing its turnover to Rs 2,000 crore by the year 2002-03.

To this end, the company is proposing to launch three new motorcycles within the next one year and is also lining up scooterettes for launch later this year.

The bikes are expected to be both from KEL's own vehicle development and also from Hyosung Motors, the former's technical collaborator from Korea.

The scooterettes were expected to be priced Rs 25,000 and would attempt to offer more style and power to the scooterette buyer, company officials said.

Speaking at a conference here on Thursday, KEL's Joint Managing Director, Ms Sulajja Motwani Firodia, said that the company was planning four new marketing initiatives under the brand campaign `Kinetic For Life'.

As a first initiative, KEL is expected to promote a vehicle exchange programme, under which the potential buyer is offered 60 per cent of the original price of the earlier Kinetic vehicle being exchanged. The exchange programme is likely to commence from September this year.

KEL is also launching a `Kinetic Mileage Assurance' programme, whereby the company's dealers are expected to assist Kinetic vehicle owners to ensure maintenance of good mileage on their two-wheelers.

The company is in the process of co-ordinating this programme with its dealers and the service is expected to commence by October this year, according to Ms Firodia.

As part of the Kinetic For Life campaign, KEL is also proposing to announce an annual maintenance contract (AMC) for its two wheelers.

The contract, again, to be offered by its local dealers, will be priced at Rs 365 for the vehicle owner.

KEL is also working on a co-branded petro card. Company officials said that it was in discussions with one of the major petroleum marketing companies for launching a co-branded petro card later this year.

KEL has also launched its latest offering, the Kinetic ZX Zoom, a new variant of the existing Kinetic ZX. The new variant, also a plastic bodied, gearless scooter, has a 110 cc engine and a new body design.
