Tea market sentiment up on TN move

COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu Government's proposal for tea market intervention to help small tea growers of Nilgiris distric has improved the tea market sentiments.

In a bid to ensure remunerative prices for the tea growers, the State Government had decided to regularly participate in the Coonoor tea auction to buy made-tea.

``Government has planned to buy 200 tonnes of made-tea from the auction every month and this quantity would be increased gradually,'' Mr N. Murugan, Secretary of the State Department of Small Industries.

The Government would make use of the public distribution system to sell the tea bought from the auction, he said, who was here to participate in a CII meeting here. Such intervention would also help discipline the tea auction, he claimed. --Our Bureau
