`Use cane by-products effectively'

TANUKU: Effective by-product utilisation is the key to ensure better returns to the sugarcane farmer and the example of Andhra Sugars is a commendable one, said Mr N Chandrababu Naidu, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, speaking at the Golden Jubilee cel ebrations of Andhra Sugars here.

He said due to excess production and the lack of export the sugarcane farmers were not getting a remunerative price. Sugar factories should make use of all the by-products. He said the State Government would take steps to ensure payment of the State advi sory price to cane growers.

Dr M Harischandra Prasad, the Chairman and Managing Director of Andhra Sugars, in his welcome address said the factory, which started commercial production 50 years ago with 600 tonnes per day, had increased the crushing capacity to 5,000 tonnes a day. I t had set up another unit and Taduvai in West Godavari with a capacity of 2,500 tonnes a day.-- Our Bureau
