Tobacco Board reconstituted
K.R. Srivats
NEW DELHI, July 31
THE Central Government has re-constituted the Tobacco Board for a period of three years.
Confirming this move, a senior Commerce Ministry official termed it as a ``routine'' decision. ``While all ex-officio and official members have been named, we are yet to notify the non-official representatives drawn from tobacco growers, exporters, proce
ssors etc,'' he said.
Meanwhile, sources said the non-official representatives could not be notified as the board had to be immediately re-constituted. ``We had to do the re-constitution in a hurry as the term of the previous board was to expire,'' they said.
It was also highlighted that representatives of some of the tobacco growing State Governments would have a shorter tenure of about two years in the board.
Dr P. Dayachari, who is currently the Tobacco Board Chairman, has again been appointed as the Chairman of the Board.
