Agriculture
Agri-concerns
Rural development is real development. In an agrarian economy, though the contribution of the service industry to GDP is high, the agricultural sector must be nursed for immediate recovery.

Banking and Finance
Don't `bank' on insurance
The UTI muddle should be reason enough not to have `Integration of banking and insurance' (Business Line, July 30). Wherever banking is owned by insurance companies or vice-versa, they should come under separate managements and under their respective con trolling authorities so that the funds of one cannot be diverted to the other.

Taxation
Service tax
The Government recently introduced service tax on various services, including credit card transactions. The Government's move to include credit card transactions under service tax net is surprising.
