Fiscal termites
C. P. Velayudhan Nair, e-mail
This refers to `Tackling fiscal termites' (Business Line, July 24) in which the author says how termites can destroy an entire house. Education and health, as rightly pointed out, are two main areas where the Government spends more money without any purp
oseful results. The huge wastage of public money by Jumbo ministries adds fuel to the fire.
In this era of coalition politics, no government can control such problems unless the political parties decide that no defector will be admitted to their parties. The observation that almost 13 States do not have the resources to pay the salaries to thei
r bureaucrats brings out the gravity of the situation. Needless to add, such States will not be able to spend even a single paisa on any developmental activity. Can the politicians prescribe the remedy for the fiscal termites?
