Philips net loss up at Rs 8.73 cr

KOLKATA, July 25

PHILIPS India Ltd has recorded a net loss of Rs 8.73 crore on an operational income of Rs 360.96 crore during the quarter ended July 1, 2001. During the quarter ended July 2, 2000, the company had recorded a net loss of Rs 3.49 crore (profit before tax o f Rs 7.39 crore) on an operational income of Rs 364.05 crore.

The board of the company met in Mumbai on Wednesday and took on record the unaudited financial results for the quarter.

According to a press release issued by the company, a sum of Rs 16.49 crore had been charged-off as exceptional items which include a voluntary retirement scheme for employees and writing down of assets that were no longer in active use.

The release states that the performance of the lighting products division has been satisfactory even as the performance of the consumer electronics division had met expectations.
