Tata Engg, Ashok Leyland -- Awaiting a U-turn in fortunes
TOGETHER they carry the commercial vehicles industry on their shoulders. They have both been impacted to various degrees by the slow-down in the economy. Both of them have embarked on cost-reduction programmes to shore up their bottomline. They declared their 2001-01 first quarter performance on the same day, Tuesday, July 24. And both of them declared sizable losses. But that's where the similarities end.
