Solutions for garbage
This refers to the article ``Municipal solid waste processing -- the Chennai experience'' (Business Line, June 13). Ms Sheela Rani Chunkath, the chairperson of the Tamil NAdu Pollution Control Board, has hit on the only solution -- segregati on -- that most `experts', and consultants pretend not to comprehend.

Alcohol fuel
This refers to the article `Alcohol in Diesel Engines' (Business Line, July 11). While there is much talk of the alcohol-mix as an alternative fuel for internal combustion engines, a better alternative, vegetable oil, does not seem to be receivin g much attention. Research done by many institutions, including the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, clearly shows good results from vegetable oils (extracted from seeds of commonly grown trees, such plants as pongam and j atropha) as substitutes for diesel.

MS-IDC clarifies
This refers to `The pink slip and beyond' (Life, June 25). The photograph featuring a poster of Microsoft's `Services for Unix' conveys the false impression that the Microsoft India Development Centre, Hyderabad, is laying off people. In fact, t he feature does not mention MS-IDC at all. The photograph has no relevance to the article.
