Indica sales up 16.5% in June

MUMBAI, July 10

TATA Engineering sold 4,758 units of the Indica in June, a 16.5 per cent rise over the same period the previous year.

Overall, Tata Engineering sold 12,833 vehicles in June 2001 as against 12,850 units sold in June 2000 and 11,134 units sold in May 2001.

The company totally sold 12,768 units of the Indica in the first quarter of 2001-2002. During the period, the car's market share improved from the earlier 10.6 per cent to 12.2 per cent, an official statement said.

The total business of the company's passenger car business unit for June was 6,791 units, with its first quarter sales pegged at 18,556 units.

Tata Engineering's utility vehicles (UV) sales dipped by 8.4 per cent in June 2001, to 2019 units. First quarter UV sales were 5,753 units. While UV market share in June was 26.8 per cent, the same for the first quarter was 23.8 per cent.

The company's sale of medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M&HCVs) grew by 56.60 per cent over May 2001 sales to 3,882 units in June. Compared to June 2000, the improvement is marginal.

Light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales dipped in June to 2,160 units (2,700). Here again, June sales represented a 44.6 per cent increase over May 2001 numbers, the statement said.

Exports amounted to 826 vehicles in June with the total for the first quarter of current fiscal being 1,950 units.
