Pan masalas to become dearer

HYDERABAD: Pan Parag and Manikchand Gutka and other related tobacco products are set to become costlier in the State with the proposal to levy higher tax rates on these products.

The State Cabinet has approved a draft ordinance on AP Tax on Luxuries Act which will pave the way for enhancement of tax rates on Pan Parag, Manikchand gutka and other tobacco-related products.

The Cabinet also decided to appeal to the Union Government to impose a total ban in the country on these products due to high incidence of cancer among its consumers, according to the State Information Minister, Dr. Sivaprasad. -- Our Bureau
