FICCI, CARE join hands for rehabilitation

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Feb. 5

THE Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and CARE, one of the world's largest non-governmental relief and rehabilitation organisation, have joined hands to initiate and execute expeditious rehabilitation work in select quake-aff ected areas of Gujarat.

The joint body would identify villages where it would primarily provide shelters and eventually work on long-term rehabilitation.

``With our limited capacity, we aim to provide rehabilitation to around 25,000 people within the next six to eight months,'' said the FICCI Secretary General, Dr Amit Mitra.

Together, the two organisation have formed the `FICCI-CARE Gujarat Rehabilitation Project' (FCGRP), which would monitor the entire work.

The Pepsico Foundation has donated $500,000 and the Bill and Miranda Gates Foundation $1 million for the Gujarat victims. The Chairman of Pepsico India Holdings, Mr P.M. Sinha, would be the Chairman of FCGRP.
