Rupee stability for its own sake?
WEAK cost-side pressures on account of intense competition and ample supplies to take care of demand-side pressures. These two factors have been combining with greatly beneficial effects for global inflation and, consequently, for interest rates prospect s as well. Indian interest rates are expected to be no exception to this globally benign trend in interest rates.

RBI: Why reserves of such magnitude?
FORCES which could well enable a fundamental re-ordering of the policy relating to external reserves seem to be taking shape. The opportunity appears available to be grasped, though one is certainly not sure of the denouement.
