Pangs of transition -- Coping with Chinese competition
THE captains of Indian industry who are struggling to cope with the challenges of liberalisation and globalisation are now scared of a new threat, cheap Chinese goods not only in international markets but also within the Indian market.

To boost exports to third countries -- India, Japan urged to explore the SEZ route
INDIA and Japan should work together and explore possibilities of promoting third country exports by taking advantage of the various rationalised procedures and investment norms applicable to the newly created special economic zones (SEZs), Mr Prabir Sen gupta, Commerce Secretary, has said.

April-August textile exports up $513 m
BREAKING the low growth syndrome of the last three years, the country's overall textile exports including handicrafts, jute and coir registered a robust 9.8 per cent growth during the first five months of the current fiscal (April-August) at $5,740.1 mil lion, as against $5,227.3 million.
