Bengal tax-payers seek extension
Our Bureau
CALCUTTA, Oct. 22
THE Direct Taxes Professionals' Association (DTPA) has urged the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to extend the due date for non-corporate tax-payers of West Bengal (for assessment year 2000-2001) to November 30 from October 31, on account of the flo
ods.
In a recent communication to the Chairman of the board, the association has pointed out that a number of representations have been received from member non-corporate assessees, whose accounts are required to be audited by October 31, that despite best ef
forts it may not be possible to complete the audit and furnish the returns within the due date.
In September, the State was hit by floods in eight out of the 16 districts, causing wholesale disruption to industrial activity.
To add to this, in October, offices were closed for more than 10 days on account of Puja holidays and other public holidays.
