Palm oil production in S. America on the rise
THE humid tropical countries of Central America and Northern South America have shown a substantial shift over the last ten years in vegetable oil production, to palm oil and palm kernel from cottonneseed and soyabeans.

CTRI to promote exotic American tobaccos
THE regional station of the Central Tobacco Research Institute (CTRI) at Hunsur is planning to promote the exotic American semi-flavourful tobacco variety in a big way in the Karnataka Light Soil (KLS) region. After the successfully making the variety ad apt to the local conditions, CTRI had introduced the semi-flavourful American variety K-326 in the KLS region during the 1999 crop season.

Tea quotes mixed at Kochi
A MIXED trend persisted in almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction this week. Though the leaf varieties witnessed a good general demand, it was comparatively less for dust varieties in the auction.
