Tata Steel: `We also mine'?

THE indications of a change in the business profile by Tata Steel may not have any near-term implications for the stock price.

The top management has stated that the company would move into mining, emerge as a materials supplier and reduce the dependence on steel. The company reckons it would have cost advantages in the mining business. These plans may take quite some time to fr uctify and the cost/benefits may not be tangible at this point in time. In this backdrop, the plans to foray into mining may not have a bearing on the valuation of the stock. -- BL Research Bureau
