Industry Palatana power project to be operational by next year AGARTALA: Gas based thermal power project at Palatana in south Tripura district would be operational by the end of next year and in the first phase it would produce 363 MW power, official sources said today. Managing Director of ONGC Tripura Power Corporation (OTPC), Mr S K Dubey and Chairman of Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) Mr B P Rao visited the Palatana Power project site on Friday last and met Tripura Power Minister, Mr Manik Dey yesterday and informed that the project would be operational by December 2011. Sources said, the OTPC MD told the Minister that the progress of construction of the site was appreciable and light equipment for the project had started reaching the state. Heavy equipments for the project were purchased from foreign countries which had reached Kolkata port and these equipments would be transported to the state through Ashuganj river port in Bangladesh, he said. After generation of 363 megawatt power by December next year the second phase of generation would begin by March 2012. The Prime Minister, Mr Manmohan Singh had laid the foundation stone of the 726 MW power project in the year 2005. It would be the highest power generating project in the North East. The ONGC which would supply natural gas available in Tripura for the project has 50% of the share, the ILFS has 26% share and state has 0.5% share. - PTI
