Tentative nod for Ranbaxy drug

NEW DELHI: Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd has received tentative approval from the US Food and Drug Administration to manufacture and market the sumatriptan succinate 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg tablets used for treatment of migraine.

The total annual market sales for sumatriptan succinate tablets is $857 million. The tablet is marketed under the Imitrex brand by GSK.

"We are pleased to receive this tentative approval for sumatriptan succinate tablets. This product represents a future opportunity for Ranbaxy and will be launched following final approval from the FDA," said Mr Jim Meehan, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing, Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals Inc, US.
