The Hindu Business Line : Joshi keen to use IT to get feedback on highways

The Road Transport and Highways Ministry might consider use of IT applications such as social networking sites to get feedback about highways from the users.

This was one of the proposals Mr C.P. Joshi, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, discussed with the Ministry officials after assuming charge here on Thursday.

Talking to the media, Mr Joshi said his priorities include improving quality of roads and bringing in transparency in the functioning of the Ministry.

Unlike his predecessor Mr Kamal Nath, Mr Joshi declined to set any measurable targets at the outset and also refused to be dragged into any controversial issues. On specific queries on policies, Mr Joshi refused to comment saying it is too early for him and he needs some time to get to know the Ministry.

Mr Joshi said that projects related to developing roads in the North-Eastern India and Left-Wing extremism affected areas, announced by the UPA Government earlier, would be expedited.

In his introductory meeting with the senior ministry officials, Mr Joshi asked his officials to make citizens the focus of the work of the Ministry. Mr Tusharbhai Choudhary also took charge as Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways.
