New small car on the anvil: Tata Motors
Our Bureau
Mumbai, Oct. 11
Tata Motors is looking at bringing out a small car between the Nano and the Indica categories. While the Nano is under Rs 2 lakh, the Indica range starts Rs 2.72 lakh going up to Rs 3.8 lakh.
“There is some white space between the Nano and Indica and we could be looking at it,” said Mr Carl Peter Forster, MD and CEO, adding that India is emerging as the “worldwide capital of small cars”. He said there was no joint product development plan on the anvil with Jaguar Land Rover.
“Tata Motors and JLR cover their own distinctive segments. We look at combining the strengths of both companies but are not jointly developing products,” he said.
“JLR has considerable opportunities to expand laterally. We are planning a smaller Land Rover and a smaller sports car. Our plan is to assemble one model of Land Rover in India starting next year,” he added.
Mr Forster said Tata Motors would look at Latin America, Asia, West Asia and Africa for exports.
