New Projects Audi India to hike capacity Our Bureau Mumbai, July 7 Audi is planning to ramp up its production capacity to 6,000 cars a year by 2015 at its Aurangabad plant, said Mr Michael Perschke, Head of Audi India. The company has started assembling its SUV model Q5 in India. Audi is currently making A4 and A6 in India. Audi has assembled 2,000 cars in India since the start of production in 2007. €30 million Investment The company has committed to invest €30 million in India in capacity and production by 2015 and has invested almost 50 per cent of it. “We are now producing A4, A6 and Q5 and have certain other models in mind (to assemble in India),” said Mr Perschke. The company aims to assemble 1,500 units of Q5 a year from its Aurangabad plant. During January-June 2010, the company sold 1,400 cars in India, reporting a 71 per cent growth over the same period last year. The newly appointed country head of Audi, Mr Perschke, said that the company will open eight new dealerships this year. Audi will have new dealerships in Kolkata, Mumbai West (Andheri), Jaipur, Ludhiana and Lucknow. Besides this the company is redeveloping its dealer outlets in Chennai and Bangalore. Mr Perschke said that the company will launch the new version of its luxury sedan A8 by the end of this year. A8 costs Rs 80 lakh upwards in India.
