Shipping/Ports Corporatisation of JNPT to begin this year Our Bureau New Delhi, June 22 The process for corporatisation of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust will be started this year, the Shipping Ministry has said. “For this, either the organisation itself or a consultant will have to design a specific action plan for the changeover (from port trust to corporate),” the Shipping Ministry Secretary, Mr K. Mohandas, said. “Subsequently, the proposal has to be discussed in the Ministry and at the highest levels of Government before taking a final decision on the issue,” he said. Speaking at the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises, Mr Mohandas said that the Government is converting some port trusts in public sector enterprises. He added that competition would be an ideal situation but globally there is established practice to regulate domestic shipping and hence protection to Indian domestic shipping industry should be adopted.
