Courts/Legal Issues Kerala High Court arrests Malaysian ship Our Bureau Kochi, Feb. 25 The Kerala High Court has arrested a Malaysian vessel owned by Malaysia International Shipping Corporation on the basis of a maritime claim. The arrest was recorded by the Bombay Port authorities while the vessel was about to leave the port. The application for the arrest was moved by Abad Group. Mr Joy Thattil, Counsel for the petitioner, said that Abad Group had imported 1,200 cartons of 27,000 kg of frozen cuttlefish from Bangladesh through the vessel. However, when the cargo was delivered, the cuttlefish was totally damaged as the refrigeration of the container was not functioning owing to compressor problems. Invoking the Special Admiralty Jurisdiction of the Kerala High Court, the order was passed by Mr Justice T.R. Ramachandan Nair directing the port authorities at Mumbai to arrest and detain the vessel, till the company furnishes security deposit of Rs 25lakh.
