Overseas Investments Industry & Economy - Petroleum Deora on an energy hunt to Africa
Mr Murli Deora Richa Mishra New Delhi, Jan. 24 In order to provide a boost to India's attempts to acquire energy security, the Petroleum Minister, Mr Murli Deora, is visiting four nations - Nigeria, Angola, Sudan and Uganda. The Minister's visit gathers significance in the backdrop of the recently-concluded second India Africa Hydrocarbons Conference at New Delhi. At the conference, the Minister had expressed the intent of Indian companies to source Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as well as equity participation in existing and upcoming LNG terminals in Africa. Mr Deora described India as a “stable, long-term and growing market for Africa's natural gas,” at the conference, and declared that Indian companies were “interested in sourcing LNG as well as equity participation in existing and upcoming LNG terminals in Africa.” The Minister had also expressed India's desire to participate in upcoming exploration and production opportunities in Angola, Ghana, Sudan, Nigeria, Uganda and Cote D'Ivoire.
