The Hindu Business Line : Inkel plans education hub

Infrastructure Kerala Ltd. (Inkel), a State Government agency, is planning to establish an education hub and a multi-services park in 250 acres of land at Malappuram.

The education hub will feature all supporting infrastructure in 100 acres to facilitate premier institutions in technology and management to set up specialised learning centres. Foreign universities and institutions may also be attracted to the campus to offer offshore classes to Indian students.

The multi-services park will also be spread over 100 acres, providing space for services in travel and tourism areas, engineering consultancy, management consultancy, energy management and research and development, among other things.

The remaining 50 acres will be utilised for social infrastructure such as student hostels with common facilities, guest house, commercial complex and guest house.

The whole project is proposed to be implemented as a joint venture between a public sector undertaking and Inkel with equity participation of 26 per cent and 74 per cent, respectively, according to Dr. G.C. Gopala Pillai, Managing Director, Inkel.

Vellayil project

Another proposal for Malabar region in the Inkel pipeline is a convention centre-cum-commercial complex at Vellayil in Kozhikode. The project is envisaged to address the problem of inadequate infrastructure for conducting seminars and meetings in the city.

The complex will have a conference hall with the capacity to accommodate 2,500 people, a mini-conference hall for corporate meetings, an exhibition-cum-display space for Malabar-specific products, an art gallery and business centres, all covering a total built-up area of 4.5 lakh sq.ft.

A third proposal for the region is an International Convention Centre and multi-services park at Ramanattukara near Kozhikode. The project will be spread over 80 acres of land.

The convention centre will have a built-up area of 2.15 lakh sq.ft., while the multi-services park, with facilities for emerging areas of research, IT and IT-enabled services, professional services and related social infrastructure, will cover an area of five lakh sq.ft.
