New Projects States - Tamil Nadu Jabil Circuit to set up facility in Sriperumbudur Our Bureau
Chennai , Sept. 18 Jabil Circuit Inc, a global leader in electronic product solutions, plans to invest more than $70 million in a new facility in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai. According to a press release, the new facility will include a production area, a dedicated display for demonstrating design, product development capabilities in Asia and an office complex to serve administrative needs, said Mr Bill Muir, Regional President, Jabil Asia. The facility will play a significant role in Jabil's expansion in India, as it will allow the company to undertake large-scale production for some of the world's biggest brand names. The facility will be operational early 2007 and will be more than 4 lakh sq ft when the construction is completed fully. As construction will take place over the next several months, production will continue in Jabil's current Chennai location in the Madras Export Processing Zone at Tambaram. Jabil is one of the largest electronic manufacturing service providers in India with more than 5,000 employees and manufacturing locations in Mumbai, Ranjangaon, Chennai and Pune. Jabil currently has 12 other manufacturing facilities in Asia and a total of 53 global operations. The US-based Jabil is an electronic product solutions company providing electronics design, manufacturing and product management services to global electronics and technology companies. It may be recalled that early this year, Jabil acquired the India based Celetronix International. According to the company's Web site, in January, Jabil Circuit Inc announced that it had exercised its purchase option to acquire all the outstanding stock of Celetronix International Ltd, a privately held manufacturer of electronic products. The acquisition added 5,750 employees and 2.7 lakh sq ft of manufacturing space in Mumbai, Chennai and Pondicherry.
