Extension of transport subsidy urged

Our Bureau

Coimbatore, Aug. 29

The South India Tea Exporters' Association (SITEA) has appealed to the Tea Board for extension of the transport subsidy. The association has stated that the extension of this subsidy, as was being given to tea exporters who used ICD Amingaon in North India, would help exporters here compete with neighbouring countries. The association further said that more than 60 per cent of exports from the South originated from Coimbatore, and hence the need to set up a special economic zone for tea here. "This is an ideal place for completing the pre-export obligation like blending, packing etc., before transporting the containers to the port of exporters' choice — be it Kochi, Tuticorin or Chennai," said Mr R.K Agarwal,

Chairman, SITEA.
