Tiruchi , Aug. 15 The order book value of the Tiruchi unit of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) is likely to touch Rs 8,500 crore next year, the Executive Director of the unit, Mr S. Sathyanarayanan, has said. Speaking at the Independence Day celebrations at the BHEL campus here on Tuesday, Mr Sathyanarayanan said the order book position of the unit has been growing consistently and is expected to touch record highs in the years to come in view of the large scale capacity additions planned in the country's power sector. Commending the performance of the employees in meeting the stiff targets, Mr Sathyanarayanan, however, urged them to gear up to reach greater heights. He pointed out that BHEL has entered into a collaborative agreement with Alstom, a private sector company, for manufacture of Once Through Boilers. This would give an additional competitive edge to BHEL in manufacturing high capacity boilers for mega projects of 800 and 1,000 MW capacities. Mr Sathyanarayanan stated that cost cutting and cycle-time reduction would be mantras in all facets of operation of BHEL in the future. BHEL has already initiated special improvement and research programmes towards achieving this end. The Tiruchi unit has also been sanctioned a modernisation programme, at an investment of Rs 190 crore, for increasing the production capacity from 4,000 MW to 5,750 MW, he said.
