To invest Rs 70 cr on expansion

Hyderabad , July 31

Computer Generated Solutions (CGS), a technology solutions provider, is scouting for an acquisition of a software services firm in India, and plans to invest here about $15 million (about Rs 70 crore) in expansion this year.

The New York-based technology and support services provider, which has over 2,000 people across 20 centres and revenues of Rs 800 crore, is planning to induct about 500 people in India and address areas such as application development and implementation services.

The Senior Vice-President of CGS, Mr Michael Wilding, said that the company, which had operations in Hyderabad and Bangalore, plans to consolidate its operations at its Hyderabad centre for its global development and support-related services. It has enlisted the services of consultants for its India acquisition plan.

The company plans to expand not by moving jobs from the US but creating new jobs here. So far, CGS has invested about $1 million in India and plans to pump in about $15 million during the year in infrastructure, human resources and technology development work, he said.

While CGS services enterprises across verticals such as manufacturing, telecom, financial services, communication and entertainment, it has a leadership position offering solutions for the fashion industry with its enterprise resource planning software, BlueCherry. Its customers include Versace, Marc Jacobs, Pepe Jeans, Malibu, Mr Wilding said.

The Managing Director of the Indian operations of CGS, Mr Pradeep Tandon, said, "A significant part of BlueCherry was developed in the India centre and we expect to deploy it in some of the Indian companies. The company has over 20 customers in India, which include Indian Council of Agriculture Research, Singareni Collieries Company Ltd, AP Tourism among others."

Though the company's focus would continue to be the North American market, and a significant part of the work in India would be aimed at addressing that market, India offers scope to deploy CGS solutions in areas of enterprise services, application development, human resource management and eLearning solutions, Mr Tandon said.
