Kerala: Audit by CAs in co-op banks, societies urged

Kochi , Feb. 24

Mr Babu Abraham Kallivayalil, the new secretary of the Southern India Regional Council (SIRC) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ICAI), has urged the Government to introduce audit by chartered accountants in cooperative banks, societies and local bodies in the State.

He said that SIRC and its members are willing to extend full support and cooperation for introduction of double entry system of accounting and other support services in local bodies, State electricity board and water authority.

Mr Kallivayalil said that developing new avenues of service such as Information Systems Audit, support services to Government and brand building are the important priorities of SIRC in the current year.

There are around 2.5 lakh students in the country out of which 75,000 are under SIRC pursuing the three stages of the chartered accountancy course - Professional Education (PE)-I, PE-II and Final.
