The Hindu Business Line : Tecpro ties up with German co for pipe conveyor belts tech

TECPRO Systems Pvt Ltd, manufacturer of conveyor belts and industrial equipment, has tied up with KOCH of Germany, for technical know-how for the manufacture of pipe conveyor belts.

Eyeing a major share of the approximate Rs 200-crore market for pipe conveyor belts in the country, Tecpro has already started working on a large project in Orissa and is in negotiations with several public and private sector companies.

Though the cost of pipe conveyor belts is higher than the conventional conveyor belt on a per metre basis, the former offers advantages of safety, environment friendliness with the material being transported safe from theft and pilferage through a long and difficult route.

Pipe conveyor belts also carry the advantage of being flexible at sharp curves and can also be installed in difficult topographic locations.

The demand for pipe conveyor belts in the country is expected to go up because of stricter environment law being enforced by the States.

Tecpro, which has offices in Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata, is setting up a new manufacturing facility at Bawal (Haryana) with an investment of Rs 10 crore.

Operations at the company's existing factory at Najafgarh (Delhi) will be phased out over 4-5 years and shifted to its new facility. Tecpro was established in 2002 and clocked a turnover of Rs 50 crore last fiscal.

It is targeting a turnover of Rs 100 crore this fiscal. Projects in hand include those for the Steel Authority of India Ltd, Bhillai Steel Plant and Vizag Steel Plant.

KOCH is a global leader in the pipe conveyor market with a market share of 78 per cent. It has 180 installed pipe conveyor systems of more than 60 km of length in 25 countries.
