Suryalata Spinning plans expansion

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , July 4

WITH the elimination of quota restrictions under the multi-fibre agreement providing major business opportunities for the textile players, Suryalata Spinning Mills Ltd (SSML) has decided to take advantage of the favourable market conditions.

Accordingly, the company proposes to increase its spindle capacity by setting up two new units — one in Andhra Pradesh and the other in Maharashtra. These units, with a capacity of 25,000 spindles each, are expected to involve an investment of Rs 80 crore.

The company informed the stock exchanges on Monday that it has identified a suitable land situated at Urkondapet village in Mahaboob Nagar district of Andhra Pradesh. SSML said it is currently in the process of identifying a suitable land near Ramtek in Maharashtra for the second unit.

The new units, with combined capacity of 50,000 spindles, will manufacture cotton yarn. The company now has an installed capacity, from the existing Kalwakurthy and Ramtek units, of 57,168 spindles. On completion of the ongoing expansion, the Ramtek unit capacity would increase to 64,368 spindles. After setting up of the new plants, the total installed capacity would increase to 1,15,000 spindles, the company said.
