KOLKATA: The Union Ministry of Coal & Mines has advised Coal India Ltd to transfer the Chairman & Managing Director of South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), Mr M.K. Thapar, with immediate effect. The vacancy thus created will be filled by Mr S. Chaudhuri, Chairman & Managing Director of Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (CMPDI).

Though no reason was given for the transfer, informed sources indicate that the Ministry may have taken the decision on the advice of the CBI which is investigating certain allegations against Mr Thapar.
