Dakshina Kannada credit plan outlay at Rs 1,451 cr

PRIORITY sector credit constitutes 75 per cent of the total credit plan for Dakshina Kannada district for 2005-06. The district credit plan for 2005-06 envisages a total outlay of Rs 1,451.28 crore. Of this, Rs 1,082 crore has been earmarked for priority sector.

The district credit plan for 2005-06 — which was released in Mangalore by the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, Mr Aravind Srivastav, on Tuesday - proposes an increase of 17 per cent over the 2004-05 plan of Rs 1,240.40 crore.

There has been a jump of 63 per cent in the outlay for agriculture sector compared to the previous year. The credit plan envisages an outlay of Rs 393.07 crore for agriculture and allied activities during 2005-06 against Rs 241.79 crore during 2004-05.

The secondary sector, including small-scale industries and non-farm sector, account for Rs 193.66 crore in the outlay. An amount of Rs 495.46 crore has been earmarked for other priority sector.

The commercial banks contribute 79 per cent of priority sector credit at Rs 852.47 crore followed by the District Central Cooperative Bank with Rs 184.97 crore.

Syndicate Bank has proposed maximum credit outlay of Rs 359.80 crore, followed by South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank with Rs 221.30 crore and Canara Bank with Rs 202.19 crore.

Commending the bankers for earmarking a major portion of the credit outlay for priority sector, Mr Srivastav said they should take a proactive role in helping the self-help groups in the formulation of new projects.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, Mr Subodh Yadav, released the district credit plan in CD format.
