TWI to produce Indo-Pak series; DD to telecast

New Delhi , March 1

THE Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to award the production rights for the India-Pakistan series to Trans-World International (TWI). However, no final decision has been taken on the award of satellite overseas rights.

TWI was awarded the rights to produce live feed for telecast of the matches on Doordarshan in an emergency meeting of the BCCI Working Committee, which met here after the Madras High Court issued an interim order last week.

"After evaluating the offers received by the Board for the television production for the series, the house unanimously decided to grant the rights to TWI.

"TWI has offered to pay $1.5 million which we are negotiating," said Mr Ranbir Singh Mahendra, President of BCCI.

Meanwhile, there is confusion regarding cable and satellite rights for the series.

"Prasar Bharati is saying that they have been authorised by the Madras High Court with regard to the terrestrial and satellite rights in the country.

But the working committee, after consultation with BCCI legal counsel, did not agree with the interpretation of Prasar Bharati," Mr Mahendra said.

"The members have authorised the President of BCCI to take a decision in this regard and I may take the assistance of one or two BCCI members and lawyers," he added.
