Mumbai , Jan. 24
GERMAN consumer electronics company G-Hanz launched its `harmless radiation' mobile phones here on Monday.
G-Hanz chose India for its initial launch because it is the fastest-growing mobile market, the company CEO and board member, Mr U.K. Ghosh, said at a news conference here.
The company has roped in Sachin Tendulkar as its brand ambassador.
The launch here will be followed by others in China, Dubai, the UK and Germany, in that order, he said. The product is aimed at health-conscious people.
G-Hanz GmBH has entered into a partnership with EMX Corporation, which owns a biochip technology that neutralises the radiation from cell-phones, said the Chairman & Co-founder of EMX, Mr J.P. Folsgaard Bak.
This technology superimposes a random noise field so that the radiation becomes neutral to the human cell tissue, he said.
The technology can be sold to other handset manufacturers too, but these manufacturers would have a legacy problem, said Mr Ghosh. "If they sold new phones as `safe' phones, then they would have to admit that their existing phones in the market are `unsafe,'" he said. Since G-Hanz only recently entered the mobile space, it does not have this baggage, he said.
The company plans to launch handsets below Rs 5,000 range by June, Mr Ghosh added.
If other handset manufacturers chose to introduce this technology, it would be by licence from G-Hanz EMX, he said.
