Software Industry & Economy - Exports & Imports IT constitutes 15.5 pc of total exports: Study Our Bureau
New Delhi , Nov. 21 ELECTRONICS, computer software and services exports accounted for 15.58 per cent of the overall exports from India during 2003-04, according to a study. "It augurs well that the share of computer software and services are going up as a ratio to the total exports from the country... We expect the share will touch the 20 per cent mark in another three to four years,'' said Mr D.K. Sareen, Executive Director, Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC). He said out of the total production of Rs 1,17,150 crore of electronics and computer software and services in the country, 56.08 per cent was exported in 2003-04. The electronics and computer software/services sector can be broadly segmented into software, IT enabled services, computer hardware, electronic components, consumer electronics and telecom equipment. "The total export of all these items was estimated at Rs 65,700 crore. Of these, computer software and services contributed 88.28 per cent of the total exports in 2003-04," the release added.
