Tea prices spurt on good demand

A GOOD general demand resulted in the spurting of prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction.

Of the 7.09 lakh kg on offer in the dust category, the price was steady to dearer by around Rs 2. Low priced CTCs appreciated even more. Or

The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 58 and Rs 80, medium CTC realised Rs 52-56 and poorer type were quoted Rs 45-50. High-grown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 72 and Rs 92 while medium BOPD realised Rs 45-48. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 40-44.

The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 3.40 lakh kg. High-grown orthodox irregularly easier while CTCs were dearer by around Rs 2 .

The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 64 and Rs 78, medium orthodox realised Rs 56-72 and plain orthodox realised Rs 50-55. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 62 and Rs 65 while medium CTC leaf were quoted Rs 53-59.
