MADURAI: Limestone-based industries are to be promoted under the New Anna Marumalarchi Thittam (NAMT) in Perambalur district.

According to the General Manager of District Industries Centre, Mr S. Asokan, the Government has permitted establishment of limestone-based ventures in and around Ariyalur where rich deposits of limestone are found. Special motivation programmes will be organised for the purpose, he said.

He further said that manufacture of sugarcane gur has been identified as another viable project in the district and two proposals with an outlay of Rs 25 lakh each, are to be forwarded to the State-level selection committee shortly.

Under PMRY scheme, loans have been disbursed to 352 educated unemployed youths to the tune of Rs 1.07 crore, he added.
