Industry Associations Info-Tech - Events CII announces talent contest for IT students Our Bureau
Bangalore , Aug 4 THE Confederation of Indian Industry (Southern Region) has announced `iTalent 2004' contest to identify and showcase students' talents in developing IT-related projects for industry applications. It has invited institutional nominations of engineering students of final year Electronics & Communication Engineering, IT & Computer Science from both undergraduate and post-graduate courses; and also post-graduate students in science and computer applications (MCA), CII said in a release. The best three projects and finalists will be given cash awards. The programme is meant to be a platform for students to present innovative IT concepts of relevance to different businesses. It would also be an opportunity for the students to be spotted by leading industries. Each institute can send in by August 9 nominations of up to four teams from these disciplines, with each team having three students. The teams are to send concept notes on the project, its technical and social relevance. An expert committee drawn from among IT majors from the South will screen the initial concepts, after which CII will invite detailed project proposals. Evaluation will be based on criteria such as innovation in scientific approach; practicality & technical feasibility; relevance to industry / community/R&D organisations; and analyses such as cost-benefit estimates. The finalists will present their projects at an event witnessed by the major IT players of the region. The best three teams will get cash awards of Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively along with individual citations. Entries can be sent to the Regional Director, CII (Southern Region) 35/1, Abhiramapuram III Street, Alwarpet, Chennai 600 018.
