THE Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation Bank, Mr Cherian Varghese, has said that the Union Finance Minister is creating "enabling environment" for agriculture lending in the country.
Mr Varghese, who was in New Delhi, told Business Line that the Minister has also given attention to social and physical infrastructure.
The Chairman and CEO of Karnataka Bank Ltd, Mr Anantakrishna, said that the introduction of turnover tax on securities transaction would impact the secondary market.
Asked about his comments on increase in the interest rates for senior citizens savings scheme, he said Karnataka Bank is already paying a per cent more to senior citizens compared to other savings scheme. "Some bold decisions have also been taken especially on foreign investments in telecom, aviation and insurance. The stock market should go up because short-term capital gain tax has been reduced to 10 per cent and there is no long term capital gains tax which should attract foreign investments as they are by and large long term players",. Mr M.Y. Khan, Chairman, J&K Bank Ltd.
