Bangalore , April 1

HINDUSTAN Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has closed the year ended March 31, 2004, with provisional turnover of Rs 3,690 crore, it's highest so far. Its provisional profit stands at Rs 445 crore, compared to the net profit of Rs 451 crore for the fiscal 2002-03.

The sales turnover is a growth of 22.7 per cent over HAL's 2002-03 turnover of Rs 3,005 crore. The export performance at Rs 215 crore is an improvement of 107 per cent over last year's Rs 103 crore, HAL said in a release here.

The defence PSU sold two of its premier products — two Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) and one Dornier Do 228 — to friendly countries, putting the indigenously developed ALH into the global market.

During the year, the company supplied 13 ALHs, eight twin-seater Jaguars and 28 upgraded MiG-21 Bis aircraft to its customers — including the IAF and Coast Guard.

The focus during the year was on indigenous design and development activities, getting the DGCA's flight certification for the civil variant of ALH or Dhruv; mission computer development for the upgradation programmes of Jaguar and MiG-27.
