Performance Ford India scores record sales in March Our Bureau
Chennai , April 1 FORD India on Thursday said it sold over 3,200 cars in March, its highest ever monthly sales. The figure was almost double the sales in March 2003, according to the company. The company sold 3,035 units of the Ikon, 185 units of the Endeavour and 12 units of the Mondeo. According to a Ford India press release, the company sold over 21,700 cars in the domestic market in 2003-04 compared to 15,300 last year. This is an over 40 per cent increase. The passenger car industry grew at about 20 per cent in 2003-04 over the previous financial year. Exports during March were 2,642 against 2,594 for the same month last year. Ford India exports completely knocked down kits of the Ikon to South Africa, Mexico and Brazil. The press release quoted Mr David E. Friedman, Managing Director and President, Ford India Ltd, as saying that the sales in March were a confirmation of the ever-growing appeal and popularity of the Ikon NXT range, the Ikon Flair and the Endeavour, all launched during the year. Mr Vinay Piparsania, Vice-President - Sales and Marketing, said the growth was triggered by the excise duty cut and the lower interest rates on car loans. Besides, the Ikon Flair, which offered a mid-size car under Rs 5 lakh, had resulted in a trend car buyers shifting from small cars to mid-size cars.
