NPPA reduces prices of 34 bulk drugs

PRICES of several important drugs used for treating infections, pain relievers and vitamins have come down after the Government reduced the customs duty and abolished the special additional duty.
The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) on Monday lowered prices of 34 bulk drugs and derivatives, including Vitamin C. Prices have been reduced by 0.18 per cent to 12.41 per cent for bulk drugs Oxytetracycline, Sulphamethoxazole, Ibuprofen, Dry Vitamin A, Erythromycin among others.
It slashed the prices of Vitamin E Acetate from Rs 1,224 per kg to Rs 942 per kg based on the detailed cost price study of Merck India Ltd. According to an official release, prices of Oxytetracycline, used for treating infections, have been brought down by 0.18 per cent to 0.26 per cent, while Prednisolone Acetate used for treating skin irritations has come down by 11.63 per cent. Vitamin C (Plain) would now cost Rs 500 per kg compared to Rs 557 per kg fixed earlier.
Prices of various formulations of Erythromycin have been brought down by 0.51 per cent to 12.41 per cent. The price of Vitamin A has been slashed by around 0.6 per cent while that of Vitamin C has been reduced by about 10 per cent.
